AMERICA FIRST POLICY DIRECTIVE TO THE SECRETARY OF STATE

The executive order establishes an “America First” foreign policy, prioritizing American interests and putting the country’s needs first. This means that U.S. foreign policy will be guided by core American values and interests, rather than international norms or agreements.

The order directs the Secretary of State to issue guidance updating the Department of State’s policies, programs, personnel, and operations to align with this new approach. The order also makes it clear that it does not affect existing laws or authority granted to executive departments and agencies, but will be implemented in a way consistent with applicable law and subject to available appropriations.
