RESTORING FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND ENDING FEDERAL CENSORSHIP

The executive order establishes a policy of protecting free speech rights guaranteed by the First Amendment to the US Constitution. It asserts that previous administration’s actions, including censoring Americans’ speech on online platforms, infringed upon these rights and advanced the government’s preferred narrative.

The order sets forth four key principles: securing the right to constitutionally protected speech, ensuring no government action undermines free speech, preventing taxpayer resources from being used to facilitate censorship, and identifying and addressing past misconduct by the federal government. The order also prohibits government departments and agencies from taking actions that contradict these principles, requires an investigation into past censorship activities, and clarifies that it does not create new rights or benefits enforceable against the US government.
