The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina has a long history dating back centuries, with members being descendants of various tribal nations from different language families. Despite facing numerous challenges, including war and disease, their connection to the land was preserved.
A plan is to be developed within 90 days to help the tribe obtain full Federal recognition through legislation or other available mechanisms, which would grant them access to full Federal benefits. This includes considering legal pathways such as congressional action, judicial action, or using procedures outlined in the Federal Register for tribal acknowledgment.
