Parents want and deserve the best education for their children but many children do not thrive in assigned government-run K-12 schools. The National Assessment of Educational Progress shows that 70% of 8th graders are below proficient in reading and math. Geographically based school assignments exacerbate housing costs, straining family finances. States with universal K-12 scholarship programs have highlighted the most promising avenue for education reform: educational choice for families.
The Administration will support parents in choosing and directing their children’s education through guidance on State-based K-12 educational choice initiatives, discretionary grant programs, and expanded opportunities for low-income and working families. Additionally, the Administration will explore mechanisms to help military families and children eligible for Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) schools use their funding for educational options of their choice.
