Protecting Second Amendment Rights

The executive order is titled “Promoting and Supporting the Second Amendment and Other Individual Rights with respect to Guns.” It was signed by President Donald Trump on January 8, 2025, in an effort to promote and support the Second Amendment and other individual rights related to guns.
The order establishes a plan of action for the Attorney General to examine all orders, regulations, guidance, plans, international agreements, and other actions of executive departments and agencies (agencies) to assess any ongoing infringements of the Second Amendment rights of American citizens. The Attorney General is then required to develop a proposed plan of action that addresses these infringements.
The order also directs the Attorney General to review actions taken by executive departments and agencies from January 2021 through January 2025, including any rules promulgated by the Department of Justice pertaining to firearms and Federal firearms licensees, as well as reports issued by the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention.
Finally, the order establishes a process for implementation under which the Attorney General is required to work with the Domestic Policy Advisor to finalize the plan of action and establish a process for its implementation.
