Protecting Second Amendment Rights

The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution states that “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The order signed by President Trump on February 8th, 2025 is an attempt to protect the Second Amendment rights of Americans. It directs various agencies to review their policies and actions related to firearms over the past four years and submit a plan to the president that outlines how they can better protect these rights.
The order does not specifically address any gun control measures, but it is seen as a reaction to the recent surge in mass shootings in the country. The executive branch will review all policies related to firearms from January 2021 through January 2025 and develop a plan to better protect Second Amendment rights. The order also directs agencies to review their classifications of firearms and ammunition, as well as any litigation that has occurred regarding the issue of gun control in recent years.
The order is intended to reassure gun owners who may have felt threatened by some of President Biden’s proposed policies on gun control. By reviewing past policies related to firearms and submitting a plan for better protecting these rights, President Trump’s executive order seeks to ensure that the Second Amendment is not infringed upon in any way.
