CONTINUING THE REDUCTION OF THE FEDERAL BUREAUCRACY

President Trump’s executive order continues his ongoing effort to reduce the size and scope of the federal government. The order directs several governmental entities, including the United States Agency for Global Media, the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in the Smithsonian Institution, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness to either be completely eliminated or their statutory functions significantly reduced. The remaining entities are required to provide a report within 7 days confirming full compliance with this order and explaining which components or functions of each entity are statutorily required and to what extent. Additionally, the Director of the Office of Management and Budget is directed to reject funding requests from these governmental entities for proposals inconsistent with this order. This executive order represents a continuation of President Trump’s campaign promise to “drain the swamp” by reducing the size and influence of the federal bureaucracy.
