Addressing Remedial Action by Paul Weiss

The executive order aims to address certain issues related to Paul Weiss, a global law firm. The President is concerned that these firms have played an outsized role in undermining judicial processes and destroying bedrock American principles. In this case, Paul Weiss has acknowledged wrongdoing by its former partner Mark Pomerantz and agreed to a number of policy changes, including adopting a policy of political neutrality with respect to client selection and attorney hiring, taking on a wide range of pro bono matters representing the full political spectrum, committing to merit-based hiring instead of “diversity, equity, and inclusion” policies, dedicating $40 million in pro bono legal services during the President’s term in office to support causes including assisting veterans, fairness in the justice system, and combating anti-Semitism. The development should give Americans hope as these reforms are aimed at bringing justice to local communities, unleashing hard-working businesses, strengthening the American family, and uniting the nation. The President has revoked his earlier executive order that addressed risks from Paul Weiss and instead ordered a policy of political neutrality with respect to client selection and attorney hiring. However, he has emphasized that nothing in this order is intended to create any right or benefit enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States or its departments, agencies, or entities, officers, employees, or agents.
